Raul Orlando Edwards
With over thirty years of dance experience that include formal training in Salsa, Classical Music, Argentine Tango, African Dances, Ballet, Jazz, Modern and other dance and music art forms, Raul is one of Houston's most knowledgeable instructors in the field of Latin dance. His teaching and performing abilities have received praise by institutions such as SPA (Society for the Performing Arts), the Houston Grand Opera, the University of Houston, Sam Houston State University, the Houston Community, the Debra Duncan Show and numerous private and public institutions. Performances include featured artist for the Foundation for Modern Music (Hobby Center for the Performing Arts); tango performer (Jones Hall); instructor (Houston Ballet Academy); performer (Opera in the Heights); first male dancer cast for the movie “The Way She Moves (VH-1); dancer/vocalist for Moores School of Music Opera House, the Ensemble Theater, Express Theater, Miller Outdoor, just to name a few.
His commitment to bringing authentic and traditional Latin dances to the people was the fuel that propelled the establishment of Strictly Street Salsa in 1998. Raul's passion lies in the love and respect he has for his culture, elements that are visible in his consummate desire to transmit the essence of the same to those who come to a class or event; this
is perhaps his greatest asset: bringing richness of his culture's music and dance to those he encounters. |
