A desire to transmit "sabor," or the taste of an authentic Latin American dance experience, inspired the teaching techniques practiced in all Strictly Street Salsa classes, which began in February of 1998 with 5 students.

 

The experience we speak of is the absence of inhibition in movement that knows no age barrier, gender, age, race and religion: Dance in celebration of life. The wide range of complex rhythms and movements found today in Latin Dance and Salsa are the result of over 500 years of melding of cultures from Africans and Gypsy music, to Native American and Europeans.

Salsa not only teaches students how to have an appreciation and love for authentic music and movement, it seeks to build bridges between people of different cultures and ethnic backgrounds.  

 

We have seen many transformations come from an involvement in our dance classes. Our mission: to inspire students to reach beyond patterns and steps whereby their creativity is launched to a place where their bodies move effortlessly and with purpose.  Our enthusiasm is fueled by the wide support we have received from the Houston community, which insures the future of Strictly Street Salsa.
