The 4th Annual Salsa y Salud!
Texas' biggest live salsa and health initiative returns with a World Premiere production, La Fiesta del Barrio, at Miller Outdoor Theatre. La Fiesta del Barrio A collaborative presentation of Foundation for Modern Music, Flamart, Miller Outdoor Theatre and Strictly Street Salsa, focuses on using artistic expression, in this case salsa, to promote community awareness and improvement in areas such as arts education, health, community building, and others. It also provides a unique opportunity to celebrate diversity by bringing people of mutliple ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds of all ages together to share in the proven world appeal salsa music and dance enjoy.
This year’s cast includes: Alexandra Alba (percussion), Anderson Ernesto Quintero Molina (percussion), Wilfredo Guilbiac Rodriguez (dancer, choreographer), Casino Stars (dance ensemble), Solmaira Castillo (actress, hostess), Strictly Street Salsa (official dance studio), the Houston All Stars Orchestra. Music Director, Jorge Orta 'Cro Cro', Director, Raul Orlando Edwards.
The 3rd Annual El Festival de La Salsa!
Exuberant and vivid performances by international artists highlight this popular outdoor fall festival. A collaboration between FLAMART, Foundation for Modern Music and Strictly Street Salsa, present Houston's closing event for Hispanic Heritage Month! Created as a platform to showcase new to established artists and as a fundraising vehicle to support arts-education programs for the underserved and economically disadvantaged of all ages, El Festival de la Salsa seeks to advance new artists and their works, engage youth in music activities while stimulating new generations of musicians and cultural diversity. This collaborate effort with FLAMART plans to position this series as the most important salsa event of the Southwest part of the country. This year's guest artists include the amazing Jimmy Bosch (with participation in over 100 recordings!) and one of the hottest names in the salsa dance circuit; Frankie Vasquez, one of salsa's most recognized voices; Manolo Mairena, one of the Northeast most popular musicians with a fresh Cuban sound; Jorge Orta y su Tumbaká with a CD release concert; Grupo Kache, also presenting music from their upcoming CD project. Vendors, food, beverages all in an evening of festivity and fun!
